Northern Lights Chapel - Pyhä |
The Chapel of the Northern Lights, the first tourist church in Lapland, was consecrated on February 9th 1986 by Bishop Olavi Rimpiläinen.
It serves the holiday makers in the area of Pyhä/Luosto. Approxiametly 14000 visitors a year have taken part in the events held in the chapel. It also serves as a peaceful and quiet place for recreation.
The chapel has many special details - for example the cross behind the altar was made from a 420 year old tree and the genuine red and grey pine above the altar reflects the northern Lights.
